scienceWelcome to Wakamiya Lab.
We are conducting cross-disciplinary research in the fields of information science and biological science toward the realization of next-generation (several to 100 years from now) information and communication technology.
I think it sounds a bit complicated, so I will describe some of my recent research themes that may be easy to imagine.
- ・How to make a brain by distributing sensors in the city?
- ・How to rescue disaster victims with cyborg insects? (Note: We do not keep insects in our laboratory.)
- ・How do I collect sheep that don't listen to me? (Note: We do not actually face the sheep.))
Some of you may think, "Are these people who do unserious research?" But this is not the case.
In fact, behind these researches is a serious vision of "learning about life and learning from life, a new approach to information and communication technology. Prof. Wakamiya approaches this vision mainly from the viewpoint of information science, Prof. Ogura mainly from the viewpoint of control engineering, and Prof. Hirai mainly from the viewpoint of communication engineering.
Since there are a variety of research themes, research methods are also diverse, ranging from simulations to mathematical formulas. Therefore, there is sure to be a research theme that suits your strengths and weaknesses. When you approach a problem with a large sense of unknown as described above, your professor will teach you carefully from the beginning. It is natural that you will not get results immediately, so you can steadily proceed with your research while consulting with your professor.
The Wakamiya Laboratory is a relatively new laboratory, so the interior of the room is very neat and relaxing. There is a break area at the end of the room, so you can switch on and off to do your research. Various events are held during the year, such as a welcome party for new students, a party for those who have passed the graduate school entrance examinations, a year-end party, etc. In summer, we go on a trip with lab members who wish. In summer, we go on a trip with other lab members who wish to join us. We usually go to various places such as Kinosaki hot spring and Tottori sand dunes to deepen the friendship among lab members.
Wakamiya Lab is suitable for the following people.
- Serious people
- People who are not serious
- People who want to try simulations
- People who want to touch mathematical formulas
- Interested in control.
- Want to do research that looks 100 years into the future
- Want to be taught well
- Want to study steadily and calmly
- Am interested in biotechnology

April: Assignment to a laboratory
The third-grade students will decide which lab they want to belong to. Feel free to e-mail us.
May: Team assignment and journal club starts
The third-grade students will decide which team you'll want to belong to. In 2020, two students at Wakamiya Team, two students at Ogura Team, one student at Hirai Team are assigned.
June: Participated in the graduate school exam preparation and progress report meeting
Students begin to prepare for the graduate school entrance examination. The Wakamiya Lab. has prepared past entrance exam questions and answers prepared by past seniors, and for the past three years, almost all students who wish to continue on to higher education have passed the exam. In addition, students participate in the research progress report meetings of their seniors to get a feel of the research atmosphere.
July: graduate school entrance examination
B4 students who wish to continue their studies will take the graduate school examination. If you are worried about the oral examination, senior graduate students will help you. You can concentrate on the graduate school exam until the exam is over.
August: Summer vacation
We will hold a party to thank you for your hard work. This party is held to relieve the stress of the graduate school examinations and to refresh students so that they can concentrate on their thesis research for the next six months. Students can start their thesis research early if they wish.
September: Presentations at lab trips and progress report meetings
Every year, we organize a two-day and one-night trip to our laboratory with a group of volunteer students. It is a chance to get to know the real faces of professors. It is a chance to get to know the real faces of the professors. At the end of the month, we give a presentation at the progress report meeting. As practice for thesis presentation, students are challenged to give a 10-minute presentation and ask 5-minute questions. The graduate students and professors will kindly support you.
October, November: Work on your thesis
I will work on my thesis based on what was pointed out at the progress report meeting. If you skip this period, you will suffer a lot after December. I will suffer a lot from December onward if I skip this period.
December: Presentation at progress report meeting
Following the progress report meeting in September, we will make a presentation at the second progress report meeting. If some results are obtained at this stage, we are in good shape.
January: presentation practice
The overall flow of the thesis is decided, and students practice their presentations while writing their thesis. It is a tough time, but if you work hard, you will reach your goal..
February: Thesis presentation
Thesis presentations will be given in the middle of February. Students are required to be brief and concise because of the small amount of time allotted to each student..
March: Graduation
make posters, organizing datas.
